OK. The roof is now sealed (for now). The railroad welded plates over the windows before retiring the caboose. We are grinding the covers off and will replace the windows. This is the before photo... four plates to remove. The windows are underneath...

Back to work after a long break...
It took two days, but completed caulking and sealing the top of the caboose. I used "Henry" fibered aluminum roof coating. Hopefully it will stop the leaks and we can start on the inside.

Out with the old...
The "kitchen" had plywood installed over the caboose floor and then linoleum was installed on top of that. We are scraping off the linoleum, unscrewing the plywood and taking it out. It is time consuming but the floor underneath is original and probably in the best shape compared to the rest of the original floor.
We are also battling beavers... they build a dam... we tear it down. Hoping they will move on.
We are taking out the old walls and insulation. Then we will get rid of the rust, patch holes in the body and start to refurbish.
The tub will have to come out. Someone cut a hole in the floor to install it...
Most of the critters are gone. We have taken out the appliances and saving the pipes, handles, lights, and train artifacts to reinstall them later.

Progress???
Pearl supervises the cleanup...
The outside is almost cleared.
The pond is just to the other side and down a small hill.
Time for lunch.
The boys took apart the porch
that had a tree growing out of it...
Time for a break...
We are gutting the inside...
between peeling paint and old insulation
we decided it would be healthier to start from scratch...

Brice on Rat Patrol...literally.
Cleaning the roof.
Better light inside.
View of the steering wheel on the rear of the caboose...I like this shot. Notice the date.

First Look- Inside
Looking in from the back door...
The cupola.
Think Safety...
Someone cut a hole in the floor and put in a tub... we found a well outside dated 1961. It now has the nickname "hippie caboose"

This Old Gray Caboose
The key doesn't work, so we removed brush from the outside...
It is a Georgia Family Lines Caboose from the Georgia/Clinchfield West Point Route.
There is an old porch on the end. It looks like someone lived here at one time.
